Overdrive and ESG on building a Smart Fleet Management System Singapore

SINGAPORE’S initiative to build a Smart Nation has paved the way for technology to achieve greater heights. It fuelled local start-ups and SMEs to create and innovate more dynamic business models suitable for the increasing demands of the public.

With the desire to improve safety, develop public transportation and preserve long-term sustainable standards, government agencies are continuously transforming, ensuring that Singapore is ahead in the latest trends and technological advancements globally.

The Internet of Things (IoT), being the fastest-growing trend in technology today, plays a vital role in making this vision a reality.

To kick things off, Enterprise Singapore (ESG) gave rise to a pilot project that supports the development and implementation of a cloud-based integrated fleet management system in Singapore. ESG collaborated with the Singapore School & Private Hire Bus Owners’ Association (SSPHBOA) to pave the way for an industry-wide transformation for the private bus industry.

At the Innovation Singapore platform of SWITCH held last November 2019, the Letter of Offer and Letter of Acceptance were signed; marking ESG’s LEAD grant support to the program.

This platform, supported by ESG’s LEAD programme, was designed to modernize and provide a user-friendly interface for bus operators in managing their fleets, schedule jobs for optimum efficiency, address safety concerns immediately, and offer a hassle-free digital payment options to users.

Without a second thought, Overdrive is on board the program alongside other key players such as iVison and EZ-Link Pte Ltd.

Overdrive is known to have provided a suite of holistic IoT solutions, ranging from tracking a fleet of vehicles and accumulated assets to providing end-to-end transportation solutions to people, equipping them with real-time geolocation data from anywhere at any given time. But beyond tracking,

Overdrive’s architectural openness and ability to tweak device-level firmware and connectivity make their technology and platform highly robust and scalable.

The pilot project was launched in December 2019 and is expected to run for 3 years, with a total of 1472 members of SSPHBOA to benefit from it.
